The Biggest Mistakes Renovation Contractors Make Online
The same handful of mistakes show up over and over in the contractors I audit. Here they are, in order of how much they cost you.
I've audited hundreds of contractor websites and GBPs. The mistakes are remarkably consistent.
1. Voicemail as a lead capture strategy
Voicemail kills leads. Period. Use an AI receptionist, an answering service, or at minimum a missed-call autoresponder.
2. No clear service area
Homeowners want to know 'do they come out here?' before they call. Spell out the cities you serve on your homepage.
3. Hiding behind a contact form
A contact form is fine as a backup. A phone number, a click-to-call button, and a booking link should be way more visible.
4. Posting jobsite chaos instead of finished work
Process photos are great for your story. Finished photos sell the job. Lead with afters.
5. Treating reviews as 'nice to have'
Reviews are ranking fuel and the closest thing to a guarantee a homeowner can get. Build a system to ask, every single job.
